Abstract :

The purpose of this study was to find the difference of effectiveness in suppressing inflammation between the eyedrops 0.1% diclofenac and 0.1% dexamethasone post cataract operation with intraocular lens implantation. This study was an experimental, double blind clinical trial. Patients who met the inclusion criteria were divided randomly into two treatment groups, each receiving 0.1% Na-Diclofenac and 0.1 Dexamethasone eyedrops. The flare and cell count in the anterior chamber was observed in days 1, 2, 7, and 14 post-operative. There were 52 patients who met the inclusion criteria, consisting of 32 males (61.54%) and 20 females (38.46%). The youngest age was 40 years, and the oldest 90 years. It was found that flare and cell count in both treatment groups in days 1, 2, 7, and 14 had no significant difference (p 0.05%), and each group had zero flare and cell count in day 14 post-operatively. Conclusively, 0.1% Na- Diclofenac eyedrop is effective in suppressing inflammation after cataract surgery, so that it can be used as alternative to the steroids.
